CITY STAFF AND THE CITY CREWS ARE PREPARING FOR THOSE, UPCOMING LARGE EVENTS BY PUTTING WHAT I CALL THE FINAL TOUCHES, AT THE BMX TRACK AND PARTNERS PARK, THE URBAN FORESTRY DIVISION IS STARTING A NEW, TREE CARE PROJECT, ON THE WATER SIDE, LIME HAULING AND BACKFILLING CONTINUES AT THE FORMER WATER TREATMENT PLANT, AND THEN, AT THE WHARF, WE'RE PERFORMING VARIOUS MAINTENANCE PROJECTS OUT THERE, ONE UPDATE ON A PROJECT I'D LIKE TO GIVE YOU, THIS MORNING AT, BOARD OF CONTROL, THE CONTRACT FOR THE PARKS AND REC MASTER PLAN UPDATE, WAS APPROVED. THE LAST PROJECT UPDATE IS THE STATE ROUTE 31 PHASE THREE IMPROVEMENTS. PROJECT CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE ROAD. OUR NEXT PHASE OF MAINTENANCE OF TRAFFIC WILL BEGIN NEXT THURSDAY, AUGUST 22ND, AND THAT WILL BE A CLOSURE OF MAPLE STREET, JUST SOUTH OF THE ELLWOOD AVENUE INTERSECTION, TWO WAY TRAFFIC WILL STILL BE MAINTAINED THROUGH THAT INTERSECTION ALONG ELWOOD ONTO NORTH MAPLE. IT'S JUST IF YOU'RE TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND ON NORTH MAPLE STREET, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO GO SOUTH ON MAPLE STREET. THOSE ARE ALL THE UPDATES WE HAVE, AT THIS TIME. SOON AFTER YOU PASS THAT, DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT, TO MOVE FORWARD WITH, THE PROJECT WAS AWARDED $8 MILLION IN WHAT'S CALLED TRANSFORMATIONAL MIXED USE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM FUNDS FROM THE STATE OF OHIO. THE STATE OF OHIO AWARDED 15 PROJECTS AROUND THE STATE. THE WHAT WE CALL THE T MUD FUNDS, AND MARYSVILLE. OF THE 15 PROJECTS, GOT THE FOURTH HIGHEST AMOUNT OF MONEY, $8 MILLION BECAUSE THE STATE HAD SEEN THAT THE PROJECT AND THE TRANSFORMATION OF A BROWNFIELD SITE LIKE WE'RE WORKING ON HERE. AND SO THE FOURTH AND THE OTHER PROJECTS THAT WERE AHEAD OF US WAS LIKE THE CITY OF CINCINNATI, THE CITY OF MONTGOMERY COUNTY, LARGER WE WERE, YOU KNOW, THOSE WERE THE LARGE URBAN AREAS THAT THAT RECEIVED ANYTHING LARGER. YOU KNOW, IN JANUARY, THE SCHOOLS APPROVED THE AGREEMENT IN MAY, THEY PRESENTED SOME INITIAL DESIGN IDEAS, BUT THOSE AREN'T THE FINAL DESIGN. YOU KNOW, THERE'S STILL A PROCESS TO GO THROUGH THE FINAL DESIGN REVIEW AND APPROVAL. AND, YOU KNOW, I TRUST THAT PROCESS, YOU KNOW, THAT'S STILL TO COME. YOU KNOW, WE TALK ABOUT THE FINANCIAL SIDE AND, AND THAT ANALYSIS, YOU KNOW, I THINK, AS HANK POINTED OUT, YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, SOME OF THOSE COMPROMISES,

THAT ANALYSIS DID NOT INCLUDE THE 150 CONSTRUCTION JOBS AND THOSE CONSTRUCTION JOBS. IT'S GOING TO BE SEVERAL YEARS THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE PLACE BEFORE THIS PROJECT IS COMPLETE. YOU KNOW, THE CITY IS GOING TO COLLECT THE INCOME TAX REVENUE FROM THOSE CONSTRUCTION JOBS.

THAT'S NOT A THAT'S NOT PART OF THE SHARED AGREEMENT. YOU KNOW, THAT'S NOT YOU KNOW, PART OF THE NUMBERS THAT, YOU KNOW, WE'RE LOOKING AT THAT'S ABOVE AND BEYOND WHAT'S IN THE COMPENSATION AGREEMENT. SO, YOU KNOW, THERE'S A LOT OF POSITIVE. BUT THE THING THAT STOOD OUT TO ME WAS SEEING WHAT HAPPENED BEYOND THE PROJECT, YOU KNOW, THERE WERE IMPROVEMENTS BEING MADE ON PROPERTIES ADJACENT TO THE DEVELOPMENT. THERE ARE IMPROVEMENTS BEING MADE IN THE REGION AROUND THAT DEVELOPMENT THAT WERE SPURRED BY, YOU KNOW, THE INVESTMENT THAT CAME. AND, YOU KNOW, JUST AS WE TALK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT SOMEONE CALLED THE DIRTY PART OF MAIN STREET, I HADN'T HEARD THAT BEFORE, BUT, YOU KNOW, JUST AS WE SEE, YOU KNOW, THIS PART IMPROVE, YOU CAN IMAGINE YOU KNOW, THE EXPANSION AND THE ENHANCEMENT OF MAIN STREET, YOU KNOW, UP AND DOWN BOTH DIRECTIONS FROM THIS AS THOSE PROPERTIES MAKE IMPROVEMENTS TO KIND OF MATCH WHAT'S BEING DONE HERE. SO, YOU KNOW, LIKE I SAID, IT'S A COMPROMISE. YOU KNOW, WE SET THE GENERAL FRAMEWORK WHEN WE AGREED IN JANUARY TO WORK WITH WITH THE DEVELOPER ON THIS, THE SCHOOLS HAVE AGREED THERE ARE, LIKE I SAID, SOME MINOR THINGS I WOULD CHANGE HERE AND THERE, BUT IN THE END IT'S ABOUT, YOU KNOW, WHAT'S BEST FOR OUR COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE. AND I THINK WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS DEVELOPMENT AND YOU LOOK AT THE AREA AROUND THE DEVELOPMENT AND YOU LOOK AT THE JOBS THAT ARE GOING TO BE CREATED, NOT JUST WITHIN THE DEVELOPMENT, BUT ALSO THE JOBS TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN. YOU KNOW, I THINK IT'S A WIN FOR THE CITY AND A WIN FOR THE COMMUNITY.

BUT I ALSO TRULY BELIEVE THAT IT WILL TAKE ALL OF US TO NOT ONLY TO NOT JUST LOOK AT THIS AS A SILO PROJECT, BUT HOW TO HOW TO ENSURE THAT ALL ZONING, PROPERTY MAINTENANCE AND EVERYTHING ELSE ENCOURAGES THESE TYPES OF DEVELOPMENT. YOU KNOW, MOVING FORWARD AND ALSO JUST REALLY QUICKLY, I JUST WANT TO BRING BACK TO CITIZENS COMMENTS, REALLY QUICKLY. NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE IN LIFE AND NO MATTER WHO YOU ARE AND WHO YOU LOVE AND WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE AND A DISABILITY, YOU MIGHT HAVE AN AGE OR WHATEVER IT IS. VOTE. IT TOOK PEOPLE OF DISABILITIES TO FIGHT TO GET HANDICAPPED SPOTS IN THIS COUNTRY. IT'S TAKEN THE LGBTQ PLUS COMMUNITY TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE THE RIGHT TO MARRIAGE.

IT'S TAKEN AFRICAN AMERICANS THE RIGHT TO FIGHT NOT ONLY FOR THIS COUNTRY THAT THEY WERE FIGHTING FOR, BUT THEY COULD NOT VOTE IN. BUT THEY FALL EVERY DAY FOR A COUNTRY THAT THEY BELIEVED WOULD BE BETTER FOR THEIR CHILDREN. AND NO MATTER WHERE YOU LIVE, WHERE YOU COME FROM, WHAT YOU LOOK LIKE, THAT'S WHAT TRULY WHAT MAKES THE AMERICAN DREAM IN THIS COUNTRY SO UNIQUE IS THAT EVERY DAY WE FIGHT AS HARD AS WE CAN, JUST LIKE OUR ANCESTORS DID, TO ENSURE OUR CHILDREN HAVE A BETTER FUTURE THAN THAN WE DI. AND HOPEFULLY AS A COUNCIL, YOU KNOW, PEOPLE WILL LOOK BACK ON OUR TIME AND HOPEFULLY HISTORY WILL PLAY US OUT IN A POSITIVE LIGHT BECAUSE HOPEFULLY PEOPLE WILL LOOK BACK ON US AND SAY WE DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB.
